<br />Commission Minutes-August 6,2008 3395 <br /> <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mrs. Sorum moved and Mr. Vanyo seconded to approve the 2009 <br />preliminary Jail budget reducing the maintenance line item by $5,000 <br />and the operating supplies line item by $5,000. On roll call vote, the <br />motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br />Mrs. Johnson explained the Annex budget is slightly increased due to the need <br />for replacement of the remaining aging air handler. Two of the three air handlers <br />have been replaced with the one that handles the air in Juvenile Detention to be <br />replaced. She is waiting for an insurance check to cover a portion of the cast <br />iron piping break which happened earlier this year. She has budgeted $12,000 <br />for pipe replacement in 2009. A consensus was reached to replace the pipe in <br />2008. <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mr. Wagner moved and Mr. Vanyo seconded to remove $12,000 for <br />cast iron piping from the preliminary budget. On roll call vote, the <br />motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br />Mr. Wagner asked if the electricity line item could be reduced. Mrs. Johnson <br />stated she is unsure but would work with the amount they allow. <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mr. Wagner moved and Mr. Vanyo seconded to reduce the electricity <br />line item for the Annex by $10,000. On roll call vote, the motion <br />carried unanimously. <br /> <br />Mrs. Johnson explained that rennovation for the guard station at the Juvenile <br />Detention Center as well as window upgrades and bunk repairs have been <br />included in the 2009 preliminary budget. The plan is to rennovate some rooms to <br />include double bunks which would house more juveniles. <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mr. Wagner moved and Mrs. Sorum seconded to approve the 2009 <br />preliminary budget for the Annex removing the cast iron piping for <br />$12,000 and reducing the electricity line item by $10,000. On roll call <br />vote, the motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br />Vern Bennett left the meeting at 11 :45 AM. <br /> <br />8. CASS COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY <br />Bruce Whitmarsh, Executive Director, was present. The organization is requesting $75,000 <br />for 2009. The county approved a budget of $56,400 last year. Mr. Whitmarsh stated they <br />are working toward becoming financially independent. Attendance at Bonanzaville has been <br />good with many activities still planned for 2008. <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mr. Wagner moved and Mr. Vanyo seconded to approve the 2009 <br />preliminary budget for the Cass County Historical Society in the <br />amount of $60,000. On roll call vote, the motion carried <br />unanimously. <br />
