2. Radiometric Consistency

Inconsistent radiometry is one of the most noticeable aesthetic issues in mosaicked
Orthophotography. Overview displays of project areas can take on a "checker board"
appearance when radiometry isn't properly balanced. When viewed at high resolution,
seams between photos may appear as a hard line between distinctly different color,
brightness or contrast levels. As a standard option for color orthophotography, Sanborn
will color balance the photos to ensure consistent radiometry between photos. If this
option is not selected, radiometric consistency will not be corrected and may be removed
from these acceptance criteria.

Sanborn is continually developing new tools and procedures to better control and blend
radiometry. However, changes in the environment during photo capture (such as sun
angle or humidity), or differing film processing may result in some minor radiometric
differences, even after radiometric balancing, which should be accepted.

REJECT IF:

· No radiometric corrections have been
applied to imagery.
· Sharp contrast is visible at photo
seams.
· There are significant radiometric
differences among photographs.

ACCEPT IF:

· Photo seams are blended to a smooth
seam.
· There are only minor radiometry
differences.
· Radiometry is consistent among
photographs.

Example of imagery with
unacceptable radiometric
consistency.

Example of imagery with
acceptable radiometric
consistency.

This picture shows imagery taken at different
times of the day. Imagery to the upper right
had more haze in the air when the photograph
was captured than to the lower left. This is
kept to a minimum through specifications for
the capture of aerial photography.

This effect does not affect the interpretability
of the imagery, and is acceptable as a standard
product.

Services Agreement between The Sanborn Map Company, Inc and Cass County, North Dakota

12
