The Artist Collective Co-op and Gallery Proposal

to attend community events in the area by having an active artist market and gallery complimenting
the sports activity, consistently crossing both audience demographics.

Project Description:

Our project concept is based on a successful model created by Artspace, a non-profit organization
that creates, fosters and preserves affordable space for artists and arts organizations around the
country. Invariably, the community that evolves within an artist live/work project soon spreads into
the surrounding area, breathing new life, energy, and stability into the entire community. Please see
attached case studies.

Background Information:

Finding and retaining affordable space is an age-old problem for artists. Our vision is to offer
residential, gallery and work space to artists that seek a diverse, affordable, stable, nurturing
environment. Our program would encourage a community of ideas by creating a cooperative living
and working environment, this environment would be driven by the artistic energy of the residents
and other tenants occupying the space.

Project Goal A: Provide affordable living and working space for artists.

Live-work units would combine work/show/gallel)' space within the same structure as a residential
living site for the artists.

. To fill the live work arrangement, we would seek applications from artists that demonstrate
a serious commitment to their creative work and a genuine need for affordable space.
Interested applicants would be reviewed by the Selection Committee for placement in the
units.

Project Goal B: Provide affordable work studio to artists.

Studio space would be available for artists in need of a working space only. This would consist of a
private studio reserved exclusively for work and would include 24 hour access.

. Work studio artists would be selected on an individual basis by application only. These
artists would demonstrate a commitment to a communal working environment.

Project Goal: Provide affordable gallery space for local artists.

Gallel)' space would consist of part of the common spacefor the individual artist to exhibit their
works to the public.

. Gallery space would be available for artists on an alternating basis. Opening receptions and
artist talks, and classes, which would take place in conjunction with the exhibits, would be
open to the public.

Page 3 of3
