Concerns

Discussion of Residential

-Safety of alternate township route if bridge

-The perceived road safety issue at the 2 large culverts could be improved by removing two of the large culverts
installed by Reed Township and the road widened at that location. The recently completed Hydraulic Study reveals
that this could be done with less than I inch of water stage increase during a 100 year flood. Total cost of this would
be in the range of$5,000. If the bridge were removed to increase the river channel width, the slight increase from
removing the culverts would be more than offset.

is eliminated

-Access to residences duringjlood if bridge

-The road was raised by Reed Township to a level that would only flood during very severe floods. A short stretch of
the road would be under water during a 100 year event. This short stretch could be raised more to allow access during
severe flooding. The recently completed hydraulic report indicates that this would have a very slight impact on the
water stage. Cost of this would be in the range of$I,OOO to $3,000.

is eliminated

of previous township road raising on jlood stages

-The hydraulic report indicates that the work previously done by the township resulted in a water stage increase during
a 100 year flood to be 1.6 inches higher than before the 1995/96 work. Most of this could be offset by removing the
bridge to widen the river channel at the bridge

-Impact

roads without the bridge

-Additional travel distance on gravel road

an extra mile on gravel

have to travel

will

-The residents
