<br />threatening situations or such treatment or medications as may be required in order to maintain <br />the health or well being of the prisoner while incarcerated, including but not limited to, <br />emergency room care, hospitalization, prescriptions, surgery, or ambulance service. Necessary <br />medical treatment shall not include elective medical or dental care which would normally be <br />provided by the prisoner, which shall not be provided in any case. CASS shall notify CLAY as <br />soon as possible after an emergency requiring the removal of the prisoner from the JAIL and to <br />obtain prior approval for removal for all other medical services required. Inmates from CLA Y <br />shall receive such medical, psychiatric, and dental treatment as may be necessary to safeguard <br />their physical and mental health and comply with the requirements of federal and state laws. <br />Current Correction Health Standards (NCCHC) shall be used as a guideline for the treatment of <br />inmates. Except in the case of an emergency, CASS shall contact CLAY for prior approval for <br />the medical, psychiatric, or dental expenses for which CLAY is responsible under the terms of <br />this contract. <br /> <br />If an inmate's behavior indicates a possible need for inpatient mental health treatment, <br />CLAY shall be notified of the situation. If it is determined that the inmate requires in-patient <br />mental health treatment, CLAY shall transfer the prisoner to one of its own facilities. In the <br />event of a mental health related emergency, CLA Y shall transfer the inmate as soon as <br />practicable. <br /> <br />In the event that medical treatment is administered to an inmate, as a result of an injury <br />that was sustained in the JAIL, excluding self-inflicted or intentional, the medical costs for such <br />treatment will be borne by CASSo <br /> <br />CLA Y is responsible for transportation to and from the detention facility for medical <br />purposes. Should CLAY request and CASS has staff available, CLAY agrees to reimburse CASS <br />for transportation to and from the detention facility for medical purposes. The reimbursement <br />amount shall be the actual cost incurred, such as emergency ambulance care costs, or if a Cass <br />County vehicle is utilized, then the reimbursement amount shall be at the applicable federal <br />mileage rate at that time. In addition, CLA Y shall reimburse CASS at the rate of Thirty-Five <br />Dollars ($35.00) per man hour, with a three hour minimum, for each correctional officer or <br />sworn law enforcement officer provided by CASS when supervising the inmate outside the <br /> <br />Page 3 of 9 <br />
