<br /> Policy Number: Number of Pages: <br /> CASS COUNTY JAIL <br />POLICIES AND PROCEDURES <br />Chapter: <br />COURTHOUSE SECURITY OPERATIONS <br />Subject: Effective Date: <br /> SECURITY SCREENING <br /> <br />POLICY: <br /> <br />All persons entering the Cass County Courthouse with the exception of Law Enforcement <br />and Cass County Employees wearing their identification badge are subject to screening <br />procedures. <br /> <br />1. Instruct the person to place the content of their pockets into the tray. <br /> <br />2. Ask the person to walk through the metal detector. <br /> <br />3. If an alarm sounds, ask the person if they have any other metal objects on their <br />person. Note the location on the metal detector that identifies the area on <br />the person's body the item (s) may be located. <br /> <br />4. If so, ask them to place additional items in the tray. <br /> <br />5. Instruct the subject to walk through the metal detector again. <br /> <br />6. If the alarm sounds again, instruct the person to step to the side. Use the hand <br />held metal detector to further screen the subject. <br /> <br />7. If after screening the alarm still sounds, ask the person if they will consent to a <br />pat search of their person. If the person refuses, the person will not be allowed <br />entry. <br /> <br />8. If the person is an attorney or other professional entering the courthouse you may <br />inspect packages, briefcases and other documents. <br /> <br />9. If the person has a prohibited item, he/she will be instructed to take the item out <br />of the courthouse. Security personnel will not hold items for any persons while <br />they conduct business in the courthouse. <br /> <br />ILLEGAL ITEMS: Any person entering the Cass County Courthouse with an illegal <br />item defined in the North Dakota Century Code is subject to arrest. <br /> <br />1. If a person is found the have an illegal item on their person the security personnel <br />may place that person under arrest and call the Sheriff s office for assistance. If <br />the person is placed under arrest, the arresting officer will complete a UCR and <br />forward it to the Senior Secretary at the Cass County Jail. <br />
