3. Sufficient bandwidth will provide dispatchers and mobile units with routing information,
using a Geographic Information System (GIS) and Global Positioning System (GPS),
which will allow them to respond as quickly and safely as possible.
4. Sufficient bandwidth will provide dispatchers the ability to identify and dispatch police or
fire units which are closest to emergency calls. This will increase the efficiency and
effectiveness of responding emergency units. This will result in the capture of more
criminals, interrupting violent crimes before they escalate, and the protection of property.
5. Sufficient bandwidth will provide an increased amount of data transmitted through the
CAD/RMS to our Mobile Data Computers (MDC) which will decrease the amount of
voice radio traffic, and provide greater efficiency in dispatch operations.

Information Technology is constantly increasing the availability and amount of information

and how that information is shared; we lie at a unique crossroads with an unparalleled

opportunity to apply proven, next-generation solutions to pressing productivity and security

issues in law enforcement today. Most leading CAD-RMS Enforcement Application Providers

(EAPs) also recognize this unique opportunity, and have created a new evolution of products for

forward looking agencies to choose from but cannot be utilized unless the wireless transport is

sufficient for a new CAD/RMS:

. Dramatic advances in wireless communication technologies and portable computing

power have created unparalleled on-the-fly mobile information availability. While this

may create prestige and economy in the private sector, it is of critical value in law

enforcement. Providing the officer on patrol in a mobile unit access to digital pictures,

criminal histories, on-the-spot fingerprint ill checks, and other capabilities creates a safer

and more efficient enforcement environment for officers to work in.
