Cass County Highway Department
May 8, 2007
Page 2

After analyzing the collected data, Braun Intertec will prepare a technical report outlining our fmdings
and reconunendations, and will provide two copies to the County. The report will contain the following
information:

Description of the work performed
Table summarizing information reported by the County
Graphs and tables summarizing results of the testing
Discussion of performance history results, where applicable
· Analysis and reconunendations as requested by the County
Copies of the field data with analysis results
Profile plots of the analysis results

We will require the following information for our analysis. Much of the required data has already been
obtained from the PMS records of previous tests. However, any changes of the following information
between 2002 and 2006 will be required.

Subgrade soil type for each roadway
As-built pavement information (layer thicknesses and material type)
Detailed traffic volumes, including any information (percentage) on truck traffic

We will also test pavements with a GPR. The GPR data provides valuable information on pavement
thickness, anomalies and cracks within the pavement system. The ground-coupled GPR has been used
in 2003, on County Road 2604, to verify the overlay thickness and to identify cracks in the old pavements
overlaid. Recently, we have acquired an air-coupled GPR for measuring pavement layer thickness at
highway speed with a high efficiency. Only air-coupled GPR will be used for this project.

Basis for Proposal

This budget is based on your request for network pavement testing under data analysis option selected in
2002. This analysis option provides information on pavement condition, maximum spring load
capacity, effective subgrade soil strength, pavement structural strength, and required overlay as
appropriate by pavement surface type. The cost-per-mile for FWD testing, data analysis, and report,
is $215 for flexible pavements, and $490 for rigid pavements. The cost-per-mile for PCI survey, data
analysis, and report, is $75 for both flexible and rigid pavements. The cost per mile for air-coupled GPR
will be thirty-five dollars per mile for both flexible and rigid pavements ($35).

Because the' total mileage stated in your e-mail is in excess of 300 miles, we are offering a 10% discount
off the total price for the deflection testing and PCI survey.
