<br />A. ORGANIZATIONAL INFORMATION <br />1. Brief summary of organizational history. <br />The North Dakota State University Extension Service exists to serve the people of North <br />Dakota. The Cooperative Extension System was established in 1914 to address through <br />education critical needs of the public in the areas of agriculture, family and youth. <br />The Parent Resource Center (PRC) was established to provide research and knowledge based <br />education to parents and agency professionals who work with parents, and to collaborate with a <br />number of organizations who desire that quality parent and family education be available and <br />delivered at their setting or other locations in the community. Emphasis is on programs that are <br />prevention focused and provide education and support for families. <br /> <br />2. Brief summary of organizational mission and goals. <br />The mission of the NDSU Extension Service is to create learning partnerships that help <br />adults and youth enhance their lives and communities. <br /> <br />3. Description of current programs, activities, service statistics and strengthsl <br />accomplishments. <br />The Parenting Resources Center provides comprehensive research-based parenting <br />classes and workshops, a parenting video and book resource library, and a quarterly newsletter to <br />the six counties in Region V. Parent education classes and workshops are supported by the <br />research-based curriculums Turning Points; 1,2,3 Magic; Love & Logic; Parenting the Strong <br />Willed Child; Building Strong Families; Children of Divorce; and Parenting the Second Time <br />Around. <br />During the 2005-2006 programming year more than 1,800 individuals have attended <br />parenting classes/workshops, nearly 1,400 individuals, agencies, and organizations received the <br />quarterly "Parenting Essentials & Extras" newsletter, 126 individuals borrowed 227 books and <br />videos, and over 400 phone calls pertaining to parenting questions were answered. Together 4 <br />Kids is a collaboration between the Fargo Public Schools and the Parenting Resources Center <br />that offers an educational series for parents that focuses on. Together 4 Kids reached 110 <br />parents during the 2005-2006 school year. A partnership between the Parenting Resources <br />Center, University ofMN Extension, and Fargo Public Schools sponsored a workshop for 145 <br />professionals on The Bully, the Bullied, and the Bystander presented by Barbara Coloroso; <br />nationally know author and speaker. A free parenting class was also held in the evening with <br />over 150 parents in attendance. <br /> <br />4. Your organization's relationship with other organizations working to meet the same <br />needs or providing similar services. Please explain how you differ from these other <br />agencies. <br />Collaboration is imperative to the success of the Parenting Resource Center. Throughout <br />the life of the Parenting Resources Center, collaboration to provide parent education programs <br />has included and will continue to include: Social Services, U ofMN Extension Service, Public <br />Health Services, PubliclPrivatelParochial Schools, Head Start, YWCA, Cass County Jail, Centre <br />Inc., Parents as Teachers Program, Nokomis Child Care Center, Rainbow Bridge, faith-based <br />groups/congregations, private businesses, preschool and child care providers, Safe Kids Program, <br />Share House and numerous other agencies. <br />
