<br />Commission Minutes--October 18, 1999 2054 <br /> <br />17. HISTORICAL SOCIETY LUNCHEON; JAIL LAND PLAT; MEETING UPDATE; WATER <br />ISSUES, Committee reports <br />Mrs. Johnson reported that she and Mr. Montplaisir represented the county last week at a <br />luncheon sponsored by the Cass County Historical Society to show appreciation for the support <br />they receive from numerous contributors to their program. <br /> <br />The plat for land purchased for the new Cass County jail was approved by the City of Fargo <br />Planning Commission last week, according to Mrs. Johnson. <br /> <br />Commissioners reported on meetings they have attended since the last Board meeting, as well <br />as upcoming meetings. Commissioners Wieland, Quick, Meyer and Koenig attended the North <br />Dakota Association of Counties convention in Minot on October 3-5, 1999. <br /> <br />Mrs. Quick received correspondence from Morris Lanning, Mayor of the City of Moorhead and <br />Chairman of the Red River Basin Board, co-signed by Gerald Groenewold, Director of the <br />Energy & Environmental Research Center at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. <br />The two letters were dated October 5 and October 15, 1999, concerning a survey of Red River <br />Basin water management needs and an upcoming water summit on December 17, 1999. Either <br />Mrs. Quick or Mr. Meyer will attend a meeting in Grand Forks on November 4, 1999, to prepare <br />for the December 17 meeting. <br /> <br />Also concerning water issues, the Board was in agreement to reaffirm the appointment of Joe <br />Belford, Ramsey County, to the Red River Basin Board as County Commission member for the <br />2000-2002 term. Cass County also supports the appointment of Allen Ruzicka, Walsh County, <br />as alternate to Mr. Belford. <br /> <br />18. CORRESPONDENCE, Received and filed <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mr. Koenig moved and Mrs. Schneider seconded to receive and file <br />correspondence outlined by the secretary as follows: Motion carried. <br /> <br />customs activity report from the City of Fargo; <br />letter dated September 28, 1999, from Citizens for Responsible Flood Control <br />regarding flood concerns. <br /> <br />19.
