<br />Commission Minutes--May 17, 1999 1980 <br /> <br />authorize the chairperson to sign: Sellin Bros., Inc. for County <br />Highway 11 grading from Highway 4 to Highway 26 and Valley Gravel, <br />Inc. for gravel projects on various county highways. On roll call vote, <br />motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br />14. SALE OF TAX-FORFEITED LOT, County deed signed <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mrs. Schneider moved and Mr. Wieland seconded to authorize the chair and <br />the county auditor to sign county deed for a tax-forfeited lot in Lake Shure <br />Estates Subdivision purchased by Timothy Nerdahl, Fargo, North Dakota. <br />On roll call vote, motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br />15. PERMIT FOR SPECIAL EVENT, Speedway Restaurant & Lounge <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mrs. Schneider moved and Mr. Wieland seconded to approve special event <br />alcoholic beverage permit for Speedway Restaurant & Lounge for a wedding <br />dance on the date of May 29, 1999, at Bonanzaville, West Fargo, ND. On roll <br />call vote, motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br />16. PERMIT FOR RAFFLE, Odyssey of the Mind. Inc. <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mrs. Schneider moved and Mr. Wieland seconded to approve raffle permit <br />for Odyssey of the Mind, Inc. (West Fargo High School Team) to be held <br />June 16, 1999, at Bonanzaville, U.S.A. On roll call vote, motion carried <br />unanimously. <br /> <br />17. INFORMATION SERVICES, Computer discussion of Year 2000 compatibility <br />Mike Steiner, Information Services Manager, gave an update on the year 2000 computer <br />situation in Cass County. A county committee consisting of Mr. Steiner, Mike Montplaisir, <br />Bonnie Johnson, Keith Berndt and Kathy Hogan have been meeting for the past 6-8 months; <br />and Mr. Steiner has an inventory of software and hardware upgrades and a statement from <br />vendors that their products are Y2K compliant. Information will be available for the public to <br />view, as well as posting it on the county's website, he said. <br /> <br />From a buildings and grounds perspective, Mrs. Johnson said county equipment was compliant <br />with the exception of the card access system, which has now been upgraded. Mr. Steiner said <br />the Road Engineer had their building systems checked for Y2K compliancy also. Mr. Montplaisir <br />has corresponded with the county's banking associates, and everything is in order with all of <br />them. <br /> <br />18. ORDINANCE #1999-1, First reading of iail sales tax ordinance <br />Mr. Montplaisir outlined the content of the proposed Cass County ordinance to impose a sales <br />tax for county jail construction and maintenance, which was patterned after the City of Fargo's <br />sales tax ordinance. He said this is the next step in the process after the favorable vote in April. <br />Birch Burdick, State's Attorney, has reviewed the draft ordinance. Mr. Montplaisir said the <br />ordinance was also reviewed by the State Tax Department, with suggested changes being <br />incorporated in the document presented to the Board today. <br />
