<br />Commission Minutes--September 8, 1998 1867 <br /> <br />Mr. Montplaisir reported on a meeting he attended earlier today in Bismarck concerning election <br />publicity and encouraging more voters to go to the polls on election day. Commissioners were <br />in agreement that the county could sponsor a precinct and allow employees to assist at the polls <br />on election day if there is interest among the employees. <br /> <br />Mr. Koenig reported on discussions with officials of Fargo Cass County Economic Development <br />Corporation concerning the 1999 budget. Also, Mr. Koenig said he voiced his concerns after the <br />budget meeting today about the ability to prioritize the new position requests in the 1999 county <br />budget. He said department heads will help with prioritizing the new employee positions. <br /> <br />Mrs. Quick is working on 1997 flood issues, such as money for any additional buy-outs and the <br />greenway concept to prevent new construction near Cass County's rivers. <br /> <br />John Goff, State's Attorney, reported on the staffing situation in his department. He said a new <br />Assistant State's Attorney will begin employment with Cass County next Monday to replace Chris <br />Myers. A temporary clerical position will be moved to a secretary function for the next few weeks <br />in the absence of a secretary on medical leave, he said. <br /> <br />Mrs. Schneider reminded Commissioners of the 1998 North Dakota Association of Counties and <br />County Commissioners Convention to be held October 11-13 in Fargo at the Doublewood Inn. <br />Commissioners were in agreement to continue the tradition of the host county sponsoring the <br />Sunday night social at a cost of about $1 ,500. Mrs. Schneider asked Mr. Wieland to present the <br />convention welcome address since he has served as a Cass County Commissioner longer than <br />any other current board member. <br /> <br />16. CORRESPONDENCE, Received and filed <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mr. Koenig moved and Mr. Wieland seconded to receive and file <br />correspondence outlined by the secretary as follows: Motion carried. <br /> <br />North Dakota Department of Transportation application for Transportation <br />Enhancement projects for Federal Fiscal Year 2000; <br />Invitation to attend Governor Edward Schafer's Leadership Development <br />conference in Bismarck on October 1 and 2, 1998; and <br />notice of regional public hearings on development of the State's 1999 Action Plan <br />for the use of HUD (Housing and Urban Development) funds. <br /> <br />17.
