Commission Minutes-April 20, 1998 1800

Commissioners reported on meetings they have attended, as well as upcoming meetings,
including the National Institute of Corrections (NIC) meeting held earlier today and those
scheduled for April 21 and 22, 1998.

Mr. Wieland has been asked to serve on a State committee regarding county extension services,
and the first meeting is set for May 7th.

Mr. Meyer requested permission to ask Jim McLaughlin, from the Southeast Cass and Cass
County Joint Water Resource Boards, to attend the rotational department meeting earlier the next
time they are scheduled in order to talk about his trip to Holland where a group learned about flood
protection.

John Goff, State's Attorney, said he intends to ask to be on the next Commission agenda to
discuss an item that came up at the last meeting during voucher approval regarding county policy
on luncheon reimbursement. He said the lawyers in this county have been getting continuing legal
education (CLE) credits through the Cass County Bar Association. At a meeting this week, for
example, he said the County Bar Association is offering three credits of continuing legal education
which will fulfill a requirement for three years of mandatory ethics education at a cost of $7.25.
He said other options would be to seek CLE credits at other locations out of Cass County, so he
intends to bring this up in a more formal manner.

16.
