12.

13.

Commission Minutes--February 18, 1997 1589

Mr. Meyer asked about Dean Wawers' duties once he is transferred to the Sheriff's Office, and
Sheriff Rudnick said he will be assigned to the investigative staff and the supervisor of that
division will determine who responds to what calls.

Mr. Koenig said one of the things Mr. Goff asked about is leaving a computer printer in the State's
Attorney's Office. The Sheriff said that would be no problem if the computer is compatible with
their equipment. John Goff, State's Attorney, said as far as he knows, it is compatible. He said
the printer was purchased at the same time as the computer and it was housed in Mr. Wawers'
office but he would like to maintain the printer. Sheriff Rudnick was agreeable.

Mr. Goff said he wanted to reiterate that this issue began last fall in the budget process. Having
the investigative services in-house over the last number of years has been enjoyable and helpful,
however, it has reached a point where, in order for him to have the necessary personnel to
conduct the core responsibilities in the office, he could forego those services in-house. He said
Mr. Wawers had indicated a desire to be transferred.

Mrs. Schneider asked if there was anyone in the audience who would like to make comments
about the transfer. Hearing no further comments, she invited a motion. MOTION, passed
Mr. Koenig moved and Mr. Meyer seconded to transfer an investigator
from the State's Attorney's Office to the Sheriff's Office effective
immediately; that all furniture, investigative equipment, a computer and
the currently assigned vehicle be transferred to the Sheriff's
Department with this move. In addition, the budget currently operating
out of the State's Attorney's Office shall transfer to the Sheriff's
Department for the maintenance of the position; and two oak wood
chairs to remain in the State's Attorney's Office, at Mr. Goff's request.
On roll call vote, motion carried unanimously.

VOUCHERS, Approved MOTION, passed
Mrs. Quick moved and Mr. Koenig seconded to approve Voucher No.
99,158 through No. 99,695. On roll call vote, motion carried
unanimously.

COMMITTEE MEETING UPDATES; STATE'S ATTORNEY PERSONNEL; NDACo WORKSHOP
FOR NEWLY ELECTED OFFICIALS; JOINT COMMUNICATIONS; OFFICE DEPOT
DEMONSTRATION; VETERANS SERVICE; GUARDIANSHIPS; LEGISLATIVE MEETING,
Committee reports
Mr. Meyer reported that he has held on-going meetings with various people regarding senior
citizen bus transportation; and he has been meeting with all of the water boards trying to solve
some potential problems with secondary flooding.

Mr. Goff reported that the application deadline is closed for three new positions in his office, and
he plans to interview applicants this week. He hopes to have the positions filled by March 1st.
Mr. Goff said he will not be at the next Commission meeting.
