Mr. Eckert <br />requested further information before making a decision today, however, <br />Mr. Klein said he asked for information in writing from Mr. Devitt but <br />did not receive anything. Mr. Wieland said the next step would be for <br />Mr. Devitt to file an abatement application if he still feels the <br />assessment is incorrect. MOTION, passed <br /> Upon recommendation of the Director of Equalization, Mr. <br /> Wieland moved and Mrs. Schneider seconded that the valuation <br /> of the Devitt property in Mapleton Township be set at $2,800 <br /> for agricultural land, $33,000 for residential lot and <br /> ~97,000 for residential structure. On roll call vote, the <br /> motion carried with four members voting in favor, Mr. Eckert <br /> opposing. <br /> <br />Hearing no further complaints, <br />adjourned for 1995. <br /> <br />the county board of equalization <br /> <br />TAX INCENTIVE FOR NEW HOME CONSTRUCTION, He~rina set for June 19. 1995 <br />Rick Berg, state legislator and realtor for GOLDMARK Investment Company, <br />and Dave Johnson, Vice President of the Home Builders Association of <br />Fargo-Moorhead, appeared before the board to request a property tax <br />incentive for new home construction. Mr. Berg was particularly <br />interested in encouraging new construction in Reed Township, and even <br />more specifically, in the Highland Park area. He said this area <br />generally competes with the cities of Fargo and West Fargo where the tax <br />incentive is provided. <br /> <br />County Auditor Michael Montplaisir said a public hearing was held when <br />the Cass County Board of Commissioners addressed this issue about ten <br />years ago. <br /> MOTION, passed <br /> Mrs. Toussaint moved and Mrs. Schneider seconded to set the <br /> date of June 19, 1995, for a public hearing on a proposed tax <br /> exemption for new construction in rural Cass County. <br /> Discussion: Mr. Berg suggested delaying the public hearing <br /> for the meeting after June 19th since the next meeting will <br /> be held in Casselton; however, it was the consensus of <br /> commissioners that it may be advantageous to hold the hearing <br /> when the meeting is outside of Fargo. At the call for the <br /> question and on roll call vote, the motion carried <br /> unanimously. <br /> <br />COMMISSION POLICY MANUAL AMENDED, Tax Incentive Policy added <br />Commissioners received a draft policy setting forth the criteria under <br />which the Cass County Board of Commissioners may grant tax exemptions <br />for new or expanding business. Mr. Wieland wants to be certain the <br />policy does not compete with the City of Fargo, and Mr. Ness said the <br /> <br /> <br />
