Comm. Minutes--May 16, 1994 1211

As part of the permit process on the pending addition to the Juvenile
Justice Center building, an asbestos survey was performed. Mrs.
Johnson said there is very little asbestos in the building. However,
she learned from the asbestos review company that the duct work is
very dirty. She was given a quote of 75 cents per square foot to
clean the duct work, and hopes to dedicate any money left in the
Buildings and Grounds budget at the end of 1994 to this Droject or to
budget for the cleaning in 1995.

Mr. Goff received an Attorney General's Opinion on county weed control
board membership stating that a county commission must appoint a
resident of each city within the county having a population of five
thousand or more to the county weed board regardless of whether the
city has established an independent and separate weed control program.
Mr. Eckert said the county commission should consider appointing one
more member to the weed control board because there are currently six
members on the board and the membership should be five or seven,
according to the North Dakota Century Code.

Mr. Ness reported that Gene Johnson has been hired as the weed control
officer to replace Wayne Colberg. Mr. Eckert said the weed board is
interviewing for additional chemical spray applicators.

Mr. Wieland reported on the welfare reform work group meeting, which
was held last week for this region.

Mr. Risher will be attending the National Association of Counties
Western Interstate Region Conference in Bismarck this week.

17.

CORRESPONDENCE, Received and filed MOTION, passed
Mr. Ness moved and Mr. Eckert seconded to receive and file
correspondence outlined by the secretary as follows:
Motion carried.

response from Senator Byron Dorgan to Chairman Steve Risher's
letter regarding the Communications Act of 1994 (S. 1822);

update of weed control activities from County Engineer Keith
Berndt, dated May 13, 1994;

Officer's Reports for April, 1994 (County Court report not
available).

18.

ADJOURNMENT
MOTION, passed
On motion by Mr. Ness and seconded by Mr. Wieland,
meeting was adjourned at 4:35 PM.

the

ATTEST:

Michael Montplaisir County Auditor
Cass County, North Dakota

APPROVED:
St~v~ Rishe~~r, ~
Cass County Commission
