SHERIFF DEPARTMENT, Rate increase for deputies working special events Jim Thoreson, Chief Deputy in the Sheriff's Department, proposed an increase in the hourly rate charged to individuals and groups hiring Sheriff deputies for special events. He said the City of Fargo Police Department charges $23.00 per hour, and he suggested raising Cass County's rate to $25 per hour. Mr. Eckert asked if there will be much resistance to the increase, and Mr. Thoreson doesn't anticipate any difficulties. MOTION, passed Mr. Ness moved and Mr. Risher seconded to approve rate increase from ~20/hour to ~25/hour effective January 1, 1994, for deputies hired by individuals and groups to work at special events. On roll call vote, motion carried unanimously. rate WEED CONTROL BOARD, Appointment of Ken Hagen MOTION, passed Mr. Ness moved and Mr. Eckert seconded to appoint Ken Hagen of Leonard, ND to the County Weed Control Board from the southwest area of Cass County for a four-year term to expire July 1, 1997. On roll call vote, motion carried unanimously. EAST CENTRAL COMMISSIONERS; STATE TAX COMMISSIONER MEETING ON PENDING LITIGATION; BUDGET COMMENTS; JAIL SEWER REPAIR, Committee reports Mr. Eckert reported that he attended the September 13th meeting of the East Central Commissioners Association in Cooperstown, and the speaker was from the Federal Emergency Management Association (FEMA). Mr. Wieland hopes a representative from Cass County Government can attend a meeting on October 7, 1993, at 1:00 PM in the State Capitol to discuss pending litigation filed by First Bank System. State's Attorney John Goff said the Attorney General's Office is handling the litigation on the county's behalf. Mr. Risher plans to be in Bismarck that day and will try to attend. Mr. Montplaisir said County Tax Director, Frank Klein, also plans to be at the meeting. Mr. Montplaisir thanked the Commission for restoring previous budget cuts on operational supplies because it shows they have confidence in department heads and how they submit their budgets. Bonnie Johnson gave an update on the jail sewer problem.
