Minutes--September 20, 1993 1112 <br /> <br />20. <br /> <br />21. <br /> <br />22. <br /> <br />23. <br /> <br />SHERIFF DEPARTMENT, Rate increase for deputies working special events <br />Jim Thoreson, Chief Deputy in the Sheriff's Department, proposed an <br />increase in the hourly rate charged to individuals and groups hiring <br />Sheriff deputies for special events. He said the City of Fargo Police <br />Department charges $23.00 per hour, and he suggested raising Cass <br />County's rate to $25 per hour. <br /> <br />Mr. Eckert asked if there will be much resistance to the <br />increase, and Mr. Thoreson doesn't anticipate any difficulties. <br /> MOTION, passed <br /> Mr. Ness moved and Mr. Risher seconded to approve rate <br /> increase from ~20/hour to ~25/hour effective January 1, <br /> 1994, for deputies hired by individuals and groups to work <br /> at special events. On roll call vote, motion carried <br /> unanimously. <br /> <br />rate <br /> <br />WEED CONTROL BOARD, Appointment of Ken Hagen <br /> MOTION, passed <br /> Mr. Ness moved and Mr. Eckert seconded to appoint Ken Hagen <br /> of Leonard, ND to the County Weed Control Board from the <br /> southwest area of Cass County for a four-year term to <br /> expire July 1, 1997. On roll call vote, motion carried <br /> unanimously. <br /> <br />EAST CENTRAL COMMISSIONERS; STATE TAX COMMISSIONER MEETING ON PENDING <br />LITIGATION; BUDGET COMMENTS; JAIL SEWER REPAIR, Committee reports <br />Mr. Eckert reported that he attended the September 13th meeting of the <br />East Central Commissioners Association in Cooperstown, and the speaker <br />was from the Federal Emergency Management Association (FEMA). <br /> <br />Mr. Wieland hopes a representative from Cass County Government can <br />attend a meeting on October 7, 1993, at 1:00 PM in the State Capitol <br />to discuss pending litigation filed by First Bank System. State's <br />Attorney John Goff said the Attorney General's Office is handling the <br />litigation on the county's behalf. Mr. Risher plans to be in Bismarck <br />that day and will try to attend. Mr. Montplaisir said County Tax <br />Director, Frank Klein, also plans to be at the meeting. <br /> <br />Mr. Montplaisir thanked the Commission for restoring previous budget <br />cuts on operational supplies because it shows they have confidence in <br />department heads and how they submit their budgets. <br /> <br />Bonnie Johnson gave an update on the jail sewer problem. <br /> <br />CORRESPONDENCE, Received and filed MOTION, passed <br /> Mr. Wieland moved and Mr. Ness seconded to receive and file <br /> correspondence outlined by the secretary as follows: <br /> Motion carried. <br /> <br />letter from Mayor of Wahpeton and response from Commissioner <br />Steve Risher concerning financial support for Lake Agassiz <br />Regional Council; <br /> <br /> <br />
