Comm. Minutes--August 16, 1993 1084 <br /> <br />21. <br /> <br />Mr. Eckert said he received a questionnaire from the Department of <br />Public Instruction concerning county superintendent of schools status, <br />and he will work with the State's Attorney on this. <br /> <br />Mr. Wieland noted Cass County's ranking by mills and taxes levied in <br />comparison with other North Dakota counties. Cass County ranks fifth <br />from the bottom in terms of the number of mills levied and ranks first <br />in terms of taxes levied. <br /> <br />Mrs. Johnson reported that the exhaust stack for the generator located <br />in the county jail was not properly insulated causing a fire in the <br />stack, which created some smoke in the jail last week. Permanent <br />repairs will be made shortly, she said. <br /> <br />Mrs. Johnson said final repairs are being made to correct the freezing <br />problem of the jail sewer system, which the county has contended with <br />for a number of winters. <br /> <br />Mrs. Johnson reminded everyone of the Joint Dispatch Council meeting at <br />7:30 AM on August 17th, 1993, in the County Commission Room. <br /> <br />Mr. Risher suggested that the chairman write a letter to North Dakota's <br />congressional delegation in Washington asking them to support the bills <br />which would free local governments from obligations to carry out future <br />federal mandates unless federal funds are provided. <br /> <br />East Central Commissioners Association will meet in Cooperstown on <br />September 13th, 10:00 AM, at the Coachman Inn. <br /> <br />CORRESPONDENCE, Received and filed MOTION, passed <br /> Mr. Ness moved and Mr. Risher seconded to receive and file <br /> correspondence outlined by the secretary as follows: Motion <br /> carried. <br /> <br />letter from Fargo Mayor Jon Lindgren concerning joint dispatch <br />services between the City of Fargo and Cass County Government; <br /> <br />notice of emergency funding assistance from the USDA Soil <br />Conservation Service for recovery efforts from recent flooding and <br />erosion damage; <br /> <br />letter from Fargo City Commissioner Arlette Preston, as Chair of <br />Public Facilities Review Committee, regarding the review process of <br />public facilities; <br /> <br />information from North Dakota Department of Transportation on <br />federal funds available for transportation enhancement projects, <br />and notice of project at Brewer Lake not being funded this year by <br />the Special Roads Committee; <br /> <br /> <br />
