<br />CORRECTION OFFICER I <br /> <br />This civilian position is entry level with no experience and is mainly responsible for security of the <br />jail and granting inmates requests. This position is responsible to Jail Shift Commander. <br /> <br />A. Duties <br /> <br />1 . Inmate/Bookings/Processing/Releases <br />a. Inmates must be showered and issued proper clothing and hygienic <br />items. <br />b. Inmates must be properly searched following all written policy. <br /> <br />2. Inmate Supervision <br />a. Must consistently perform jail checks and headcounts as policy requires. <br />b. Must deal with inmates in a consistently firm but fair manner. <br />c. Must document and report incidents occurring between staff and <br />inmates. <br />d. Must deal with inmates in a polite and professional manner. <br />e. Must use extreme caution and ensure accuracy with inmate/public <br />monies. <br /> <br />3. Report Writing and Documentation <br />a. Must consistently document and write clear and concise reports <br />whenever required. <br />b. Must handle all evidence as required by policy. <br /> <br />4. Security <br />a. Must be alert for physical security problems or concerns. <br />b. Practice all personnel security measures as defined in policy. <br />c. Correctly perform cell/facility searches. <br /> <br />5. Inmate Services <br />a. Must provide prompt and accurate meal counts <br />b. Serve all meals in a prompt and sanitary manner. <br />c. Conduct recreation, visitation and church and group activities in an <br />effective manner and in accordance with jail policy. <br />d. Must release and return all work release inmates in a timely manner and <br />supervise them while they are in the facility. <br />e. Ensure that all inmates are provided with prompt and adequate medical <br />care as written in policy. <br />f. Inspect and deliver incoming and outgoing mail promptly as described in <br />jail policy. <br /> <br />6. Emergency/Safety Procedures <br />a. Properly implement emergency procedures according to jail policy. <br />b. Constantly alert for any safety concerns and report the same to line <br />supervisors. <br /> <br />B. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS <br /> <br />1 . Must be at least 18 years of age. <br />2. Must pass physical and psychological exam. <br />3. Be proficient in the use of all assigned equipment. <br />4. Must be certified to do CPR. <br />5. Must be able to walk, run, lift, and carry and have sufficient dexterity in both limbs <br />to perform other manual tasks associated with correctional activities. <br />6. Must be capable of physical activities which may involve restraining individual(s). <br />7. Must be capable of both verbal and written skills that would enable one to <br />communicate effectively with individuals of various mental capacities and <br />professions. <br />
