Commission Minutes--November 7, 2005 3000

20. SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT, Staffina reauest for courthouse and annex security
Sheriff Don Rudnick was present to explain a request for security staffing when his
department assumes responsibility for courthouse and annex security effective January 1 ,
2006. At his discretion, a decision was made to terminate the private company currently
providing security services as of December 31,2005, and the sheriffs department will cover
the duties. He requested approval to hire early for the staff necessary to fill the court/
transport positions.

Bonnie Johnson, County Coordinator, said she understands the sheriff intends to rotate
court/transport staff to handle the security duties in the courthouse and annex.

Mr. Vanyo asked if this works out to be budget neutral, and the sheriff said the county was
paying $90,000 to the private security company, and the salaries and benefits of two new
hires will equal about $90,000. He estimated the cost to hire early at $7,636 and said
money is available in the 2005 jail full-time salary line item and the jail overtime line item.
He said he is not asking for additional dollars.
MOTION, passed
Mr. Pawluk moved and Mrs. Sorum seconded to approve the sheriff's
staffing request for court/transport positions relating to courthouse and
annex security. On roll call vote, the motion carried unanimously.

21. VOUCHERS, Approved
MOTION, passed
Mr. Wagner moved and Mrs. Sorum seconded to approve Voucher No.
202,099 through Voucher No. 202,441. He said it is something that may be pursued in the
future in North Dakota.
