Comm. Hinutes--June 20, 1989 275 <br /> <br />11. RESOLUTION #1989-10, Gas Tax Referral NOTION, passed <br /> Hr. Wieland moved and Hr. Sondra]l seconded to adopt <br /> Resolution #1989-10 as follows: Hotion carried. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, The 1989 Legislature passed a three-cent gas tax <br />and a two-cent diesel tax, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, The counties share in 23 percent of the receipts <br />of the tax from the highway trust fund, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Signatures are being gathered to refer the gas tax, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Cass County could lose <br />dedicated to road maintenance, <br /> <br />$255,351, which is <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, Let it be resolved that the Commission of <br />Cass County, this 20th day of June, 1989, passed a <br />resolution urging county citizens to examine the <br />ramifications of the gas tax referral petition which could <br />have a negative impact on the county budget, before signing <br />the referral petition, and further encourage county <br />citizens to vote against the referral when and if the <br />opportunity arises. <br /> <br />12. WESTLAW LIBRARY, District Court a~reement NOTION, passed <br /> Hr. Shannon moved and Mrs, Toussaint seconded to renew the <br /> Westlaw Library agreement with District Court at the same <br /> rate as the previous agreement for the term of two years <br /> from July 1, 1989 to June 30, 1991. On roll call vote, the <br /> motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br />13. EXTENSION SERVICE, Salary ad.iustments requested <br />Rudy Radke, County Extension Agent, and Sharon D. Anderson, District <br />Director, appeared before the Board regarding salary increases for <br />the professional staff of the NDSU Extension Service to become <br />effective July 1, 1989, as approved by the State Legislature and the <br />State Board of Higher Education. Ms. Anderson stated that the <br />Extension staff is considered State employees so the salary changes <br />would be effective July 1 instead of January 1st. The annual amount <br />of increase would be $5,917.00. <br /> <br />Hr. Radke stated that he did include a 6% increase in the 1989 budget <br />as an estimate of proposed salary increases, but the County <br />Commission did not appropriate the additional money. Hr. Shannon <br />asked the other Commissioners why this was not included in the <br />budget, and Hr. Eckert stated that the exact amount of the increase <br />was not known at the time, and the Commission was trying to balance <br />the County budget, Mrs. Toussaint suggested working with estimates <br />in the future, rather than excluding it entirely from the budget, <br /> <br /> <br />
