Commission Minutes-August 13, 2003 2635 <br /> <br />Mr. Wagner said the board may not be in a position to grant the entire amount requested, <br />however, he suggested a 6.5% increase to about $100,000. This is the amount of the <br />county's anticipated taxable valuation increase over the previous year. Mr. Montplaisir <br />said that amount would cover the liability insurance, premiums, trophies and ribbons. <br /> <br />Mrs. Sorum asked about the camping area at the fairgrounds, and it was noted that <br />ownership of the campground can revert back to the Red River Valley Fair Association <br />after December 31,2004. Mr. Olson said the campground is used a lot, mostly by <br />construction workers in the area. Motion, passed <br /> Mr. Vanyo moved and Mr. Meyer seconded to appropriate $98,500 to the <br /> Red River Valley Fair to reflect a 6.5% increase in the county valuation. <br /> On roll call vote, the motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br />Fargo Cass County Economic Development Corporation <br />Brian Walters, Executive Director of the Fargo Cass County Economic Development <br />Corporation (FCCEDC), requested funding at one mill, or approximately $293,000. He <br />said the mission of FCCEDC is to grow and diversify the economy in Cass County by <br />attracting, expanding and retaining primary sector business. A figure of $265,000 was <br />suggested for budget purposes, minus $15,000 for the Lake Agassiz Regional Council. <br /> Motion, passed <br /> Mr. Meyer moved and Mr. Bennett seconded to approve $250,000 for <br /> the Fargo Cass County Economic Development Corporation for <br /> budgeting purposes. On roll call vote, the motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br />Historical Society <br />Steve Stark, Executive Director of the Cass County Historical Society, requested one- <br />quarter mill, or $50,000, for the operation and maintenance of Bonanzaville, a pioneer <br />village on the west edge of the City of West Fargo. He said 2004 marks the 50th <br />Anniversary of the historical society. Mr. Wagner suggested an increase of 6.5% to reflect <br />the county's proposed valuation increase. Mr, Bennett said he would supp. ort the <br />requested amount of $50,000. In addition to the mill levy, Mr. Montplaisir said the county <br />pays the Historical Society's share of special assessments for Sheyenne Diversion. <br /> Motion, passed <br /> Mr. Meyer moved and Mr. Vanyo seconded to increase the county <br /> contribution to the Cass County Historical Society by $1,000, to $37,000 <br /> for 2004. The motion carried on roll call vote with four members voting <br /> "Aye" and Mr. Bennett opposing. <br /> <br />Lake Agassiz Regional Council <br />Irvin Rustad, Executive Director of the Lake Agassiz Regional Council, requested $15,000 <br />for the 2004 budget year. Funds received from this six-county region are used to match <br />Federal and/or State funds received by the regional council for administration and <br />economic development. Mr. Rustad said his organization also receives $52,000 from <br />Economic Development Administration. Motion, passed <br /> Mr. Bennett moved and Mr. Meyer seconded to approve the $15,000 <br /> request of the Lake Agassiz Regional Council for 2004.
