'~-r~,-: j,~ ~, i~ t':'.,r: ~,:~t.~t .~ \,t !!r'l,,-, ~,,r.l~-* ,~ ~ ir. <br />services is contingent on three factors. <br /> <br />1 ) The individual is an adult <br />2) The individual is vulnerable according to the criteria of this pmgr*em. <br />3} There exits a need for protective services bases on the criteria of this program. <br /> <br />Definition of' an E[iqible Vulnerable Adu~ <br /> <br />For the purposes of this program a V~zlnerable/t~luit is a person who has a <br />substantial mental or functional impairment that compromises health, safely, or' <br />independent life style. <br /> <br />in assessing whether an alleged victim appears to meet the definition of a substantial <br />mental or fL~nctional impairment. <br />The VAPS service coor=linator considers the degree of impairment end how these <br />factors affect the alleged victims degree of vulnerability to abuse neglect or <br />exploitation.. If the alleged victim has a disability, the VA,°S service coon:[inator <br />determines whether the disability 'substantially' or 'greatly' impairs the person's ability <br />to protect anci care for themselves- After considering these factors the coordinator <br />rna~as a professional judgement as to whether the alleged victim has substantial <br />impairment that keePS him fi'om being able to protect himself from abuse, neglect,, or <br />exploitation. When in doubt, the YAPS coordinator will err on the side of the alleged <br />victim. <br /> <br />Substantial mental impairment may inctude:(IADL's) examples may be: <br /> <br />-loss of memory that poses a threal: to sa'ely or makes the adult vulnerable to <br />exploitation. <br />-inability to dress appropriately for the weather. <br />-wandering, 'getting loa~' or disorientation. <br />-inability to manage medical treatments, medications or finances. <br />-untreated alcohol or drug abuse ( including prescription medications). <br />-or an untreated mental illness that inhibits the adults ability to maintain self cam or live <br />independently, or impairs the adults decision making capability. <br /> <br /> <br />
