Cass County Situation Report Submitted by: Greg McDonald, Emergency Manager <br /> <br /> SITUATION REPORT NO. 2 <br /> INCIDENT NO. 2003-02 <br />DATE: June 27, 2003Time: 12:30 p.m. <br /> <br />TO: <br /> <br />ND Division of Emergency Management <br /> <br />P.O. Box 5511 <br />Bismarck, ND 58506-5511 <br /> <br />NATURE OF DISASTER: Summer Heavy Rains and High Wind Damage. <br />DEATHS AND INJURIES: No new injuries to report <br /> <br />DAMAGES: The Mayor of Ayr contacted Cass EM on 6/26/03 concerning debris <br />removal and tree replacement funding sources. This city also suffered heavy <br />damage to trees from the high winds. A review of damages to this city by Cass EM <br />did take place and follow-up with the ND Forest Service reference this city and <br />others is taking place. <br /> <br />Extensive damage to residential areas in Cass County such as tree rows or shelter <br />belts is too many to count at this time. Reports to Cass EM from some residents is <br />that insurance companies will not be assisting in tree debris removal unless the tree <br />actually struck a home. Some private contractor estimates reach into the $2-3,000 <br />range for residential clean-up due to the size and number of trees lost. <br /> <br />The Mayor of Gardner is looking for guidance on tree debris removal, storage and a <br />permanent solution to the debris pile that they will be creating. Fargo-Cass Public <br />Health and the ND State Health Department was contacted on this issue. Fargo- <br />Cass Public Health is stating that the burning of this debris will be allowed but further <br />contact with them should take place. <br /> <br />Cass County Electric has uncovered several small problems requiring their attention <br />during repairs and they now estimate a repair cost to the same number of 16 <br />electrical poles and sights at $50,000. <br /> <br />No new reports from Minn-Kota Electric or other reports of damage at this time. <br /> <br />4. RESOURCES: City resources are stretched to the limit in the above cities due to <br /> debris clean-up. Very large trees need to be removed <br /> <br />5. LOCAL: Nothing new to report. <br /> <br />6. VOLUNTEER ACTION: Nothing new to report. <br /> <br />7. MAJOR ACTIONS: Debris clean-up and power restoration and repair to power lines <br /> are the major actions still taking place Cass County. <br /> <br />8. ASSISTANCE NEEDED:. The Mayor of Ayr contacted Cass EM on 6/26/03 <br /> concerning debris removal and tree replacement funding sources. <br /> <br /> The Mayor of Gardner is looking for permission to pile the tree debris from his city on <br /> the eastside of the city at a gravel pit outside city limits. ND State Health <br /> Department and Fargo-Cass Public Health will be consulted. <br /> <br /> <br />
