02-0T-03 11:32am From-ND SECRETARY OF STATE ?013281590 T-OO3 P.03/04 F-gO2

A, ached you will find a conceptual site plan of thc Cass County Courthouse Campus for your
consideration. Thc shcriWs residence remains on this plan along with the footprim of the
proposed courthouse west addition. By removing thc existing jail, and locating thc proposed
addition further northeast, the ~heriff's residence can be retained. Thc footprint of the propo~,,d
addition has remained of the same size and height as the proposal completed by Foss Associates.
The park!~g lot to thc south of the addition has been enlarged to replace the parking that has been
lost a~ the north end of thc addition. Although the connection points lo thc existing courthouse
have been revised in location, the floor plan for the addition has not been completed, and
adjustmeots should be easily completed.

This proposal provides a workable compromise to retain the residence, however the county will
also have the opportunity to construct tho addition it desL,~. This proposal may not provide
eve.~ything that different groups or individuals would like to achieve, however it does provide
something that both sides to this argument wo~ld like as an end result.

We will be happy to a~sist you with preservation, reuse .a._n_d mitigation pl.a..n, oing. Please inform us
of your decisions m this area. This will fommlly conclude the process for review of options with
this office. Please call if you have questions.

Sincerely,

Merlan E. Paaverud '/~"
Director {.~

State Historical Society of North Dakota
