<br />Commission Minutes--February 3, 2003 2557 <br /> <br />Mr. Bennett said he believes this is a necessary and admirable service the Johnson's are <br />providing since technology has tended to widen the gap of knowledge between the wealthy <br />and the less wealthy. This is a way to get the tools and software to them also. <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mr. Vanyo moved and Mrs. Sorum seconded to authorize the chairman to <br />sign the Memorandum of Understanding with the North Dakota <br />Association of Counties for automation services, according to a letter <br />from Michael Montplaisir, County Auditor, dated January 27, 2003. On roll <br />call vote, the motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mrs. Sorum moved and Mr. Vanyo seconded to authorize the county <br />auditor to donate used county computers to internetSeniors. On roll call <br />vote, the motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br />15. VOUCHERS, Approved <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mr. Vanyo moved and Mrs. Sorum seconded to approve Voucher No. <br />172,926 through No. 173,326. On roll call vote, the motion carried <br />unanimously. <br /> <br />16. MEETING UPDATES; lEGISLATIVE REVIEW; JAil CONSULTANT, Committee reports <br />Commissioners and staff reported on meetings they have attended in the past two weeks, as <br />well as upcoming meetings. Mr. Montplaisir attended the East Central Commissioners <br />Association meeting in Jamestown last Monday. <br /> <br />Bonnie Johnson, Mike Montplaisir and State's Attorney Birch Burdick reported on bills they <br />are following in the legislative session. They have prepared testimony and traveled to <br />Bismarck on several bills during the session. Mr. Bennett commented that the Friday <br />legislative meetings with county department heads has been very informative, and the county <br />is fortunate to have Mrs. Johnson monitoring bills and keeping key people informed. <br /> <br />All commissioners present were in agreement to have Mr. Montplaisir represent the county's <br />best interests concerning a bill relating to bank taxes. <br /> <br />Jail consultant, Jim Rowenhorst, will be in Cass County this week for a post-occupancy visit <br />at the Cass County Jail. Mrs. Johnson said he will observe jail practices during the visit. <br /> <br />Mr. Vanyo said it is commendable for Kathy Hogan, Social Services Director, to accept the <br />Novus Program through the Dakota Medical Foundation. <br /> <br />17. CORRESPONDENCE, Received and filed <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mrs. Sorum moved and Mr. Vanyo seconded to receive and file <br />correspondence outlined by the secretary as follows: Motion carried. <br /> <br />- North Dakota Department of Transportation information on highway improvement project <br />for the 12th Avenue North Bridge in Fargo, and information on Demonstration Projects in <br />the new Federal Highway Bill; <br />
