<br /> <br />FMDA PHASE I Submittal I-2 <br />CONCEPT BACKGROUND <br />1) Describe the general project purpose: <br /> <br />The purpose of this project is to address Flood Damage Reduction (FDR) goals and provide Natural <br />Resource Enhancement (NRE) in the upper region of the South Branch of the Buffalo River watershed <br />upstream of the Clay/Wilkin County border. This regional retention project also has the potential to <br />provide FDR benefits along the lower portion of the South Branch, as well as further downstream. The <br />project is envisioned to include regional retention (4,695 acre-feet of gated storage is currently under <br />consideration), channel restoration and buffer expansion along the South Branch of the Buffalo River <br />between Minnesota Highway 9 and the Clay/Wilkin County border.
