This year, since the commission did not have any
formal meetings in December, this needs to be taken care of at the first
meeting in January.

For simplicity sake, we normally only make adjustments for those items that
are over budget--the actual dollars to cover these overages comes from items
that came in under budget. The necessary budget adjustments are explained
below:

Department/Fund

Amount

County Commission
This adjustment is needed because of a seven-member board
during the month of December 2002, cost of legal publications
during 2002, and the cost of having three commissioners attend
the national conference in 2002. Past commissions have not
attended national conferences, and this year's commission felt
the board needed to become more active on a national basis.

$11,000

Auditor
This adjustment is for two items: copier maintenance and
recording fees. The addition of a large format copier added
more expense than anticipated for the maintenance agreement.
The additional recording fees were the result of the county
taking back a larger number of properties than normal in the
tax forfeiture process - the county pays to record the forfeiture
deed in the County Recorder's Office.

$5,000

Election
Election expenses were higher than normal this year as a result
of redistricting. The extra expense was for publications of
maps prior to party reorganization meetings in February and
extensive publication of maps prior to each election to aid
Box 2806 voters in locating their polling place.
211 Ninth Street South
Fargo, North Dakota 58103

$16,000

Fax 701-2416728

www. casscounrygov, com
