From and average of two TVs needing repair per week to two in
two years.

From an average of 99 sets of inmate cloths destroyed per week to
l 5 sets in two years.

Vandalism and graffiti were non-existent.

These successes have been accomplished in many facilities and there
is no reason that they cannot be accomplished in the Cass County jail.
It does require well-trained and motivated staff, good supervisors, and
excellent administration. Additional training may be needed to give
the staff, supervisors and administrator the knowledge and skills
necessary to achieve success.

The classification officer has not had formal training in inmate
classification. Although there does not appear to be anything wrong
with her performance, classification is a very critical part of the
successful operation of the new jail and formal training should be
provided. The supervisors and staff should also receive training in
classification and discipline since it is the combination of these two
things that are the backbone to controlling inmate behavior.

Progress will be difficult if the staff, supervisors, and
administrator do not have the required knowledge and skills to
control inmate behavior.

Cass County Jail Project 12
