In August of 2002, $31,085 was paid
for housing our inmates. Today, Monday, August 16, we
continue to have 25 inmates housed at facilities other
than our own, at an average cost of $50 per inmate per
day. Our prisoner population in our new facility today
was 168.

The following is an explanation of what we are currently
doing to manage our population:

The new jail was designed to house inmates according to
their charge and behavior. It was set up to separate our
maximum custody from our minimum custody inmates by the
different pods. Here is a list of the pods and what they
were meant to be used as and what they are being used as.

- Work release dorm is a 48 bed dormitory sekting. It is
designed to house minimum restriction inmates who leave
the facility for work/school/or treatment programs daily.
They all have different schedules and hours they work.
Right now the two 8 bed dorms are housing minimum
security inmates that do not qualify for the above
programs. These inmates are, however, getting the same
type of privileges as the inmates that are on the work
release program. For example, access to the television,
phones and commissary whenever they want it.

- Charlie pod is designed for females. There are four
units in this pod designed to house minimum, medium and
maximum custody. Right now we have minimum males and

211 9th St. S.
Box 488
Fargo, North Dakota 5810743488
www.¢o.cass.nd.as/shefiff
