to the absence of the Chairman, Mr. Wieland recommended post poning
any action on the proposal of Henderson, Young Company; and to place
it on the agenda again for next week.
Commissioner Eckert presented a request from Steve Grindberg,
County Road Superintendent for additional part -time employees.
However, Mr. Grindberg was questioning how many hours a part -time
employee can work without the County paying benefits. Mr. Wieland
stated that the County would have to pay whatever benefits required
by the Federal Government. Mr. Eckert moved and Mr. Sondrall seconded
that Steve Grindberg be allowed to hire up to eight part -time employees
at $5.50 per hour but to receive no benefits which are determined
by the County Board for County employees. On roll call vote, the
motion carried unanimously.
Correspondence from the Office of State Tax Commissioner,
regarding salary requirements set by the 1985 Legislature for county
state's attorneys, was referred to Scott Krueger, Administrative
Assistant, for clarification.
Mrs. Stanton moved and Mr. Sondrall seconded to approve an
additional $85.00 to Camrud -Foss Construction Company to replace the
sidewalk on the south side of the Courthouse, according to the City
of Fargo specifications. On roll call vote, the motion carried
unanimously.
Mrs. Stanton moved and Mr. Eckert seconded to approve out of
state travel for Gilbert Engel and Beverly Bohn, County Social Services
employees, to travel to Bemidji, Minnesota, on June 24, 1985. On
roll call vote, the motion carried unanimously.
Mr. Eckert reported on a grasshopper problem in the road ditches
in the Leonard and Durbin areas. A majority of the Commission felt
that the County should not become involved in spraying for grasshoppers
because other areas may also need assistance for grasshopper control
or other insects, and the costs could become prohibitive. He stated
that the North Dakota Extension Service is willing to cooperate with
these areas by doing a survey of the extent of the problem and providing
information on controlling it.
Upon the request of Sheriff Don Rudnick, the Vice Chairman
appointed Commissioners Stanton and Eckert to work with the Sheriff
on a committee to study changes in wage and hour laws.
Mrs. Stanton moved and Mr. Eckert seconded that the Chairman
be authorized to sign the Sworn Statement in Proof of Loss for an
insurance claim in the amount of $2,215.16 for electrical repair during
the power outage in the Courthouse addition last March. On roll call
vote, the motion carried unanimously.
Mrs. Stanton moved and Mr. Sondrall seconded that the Vice
Chairman be authorized to sign contracts with AT &T Company for
substitute telephone equipment at a savings to the County of $4,100.00.
On roll call vote, the motion carried unanimously.
