Commissioner Eckert recommended
that the Juvenile Detention Center b~ turned over to the Sheriff's Department for
operation beginning with the new budget year on July 1, 1982. He felt this would
eliminate some duplication of administration and it will mean better utilization
of time of the present staff in the Detention Center as they can do typing for the
Sheriff's Office when the Detention Center is not busy. Mr. Monson was present
and stated that he can see where the Commission must do what is best in terms of
running an economically efficient center. He stated that he has talked with the
Sheriff and was told that the philosophy of the center will be kept basically the same
as at present. Sheriff Don Rudnick stated that he does not feel there will be any large
money savings other than the elimination of the management position and better use of
the present staff.

Mr. Larson moved that the Detention Center operation be turned over to the
Sheriff's Department effective immediately.
