Erik Hjelle visited the site Friday, May 14,2004 you had dug to expose two
of the concrete footings.

Ulteig Engincers, Inc. noted the residence is supported on four steel beams equally spaced
()ver the 23' width ofthe structure. The steel beams are typically supponed every two to
four feet with concrete ll1as,)nry blocks and concrete pads, At the north end of the building,
Hjelle notcd the concrete pad was 7' -9" x 2' -0" and 6" thick bearing at grade, Atthe south
east side, the steel beam was support on concrete masonry blocks bearing on a 2'-0" x 2'-
0" ^ 6" concrete pad bearing at grade. Undemeath this 2 foot square pad, a concrete
footing was also found, the bottom of this footing was l' -6" below grade.

These footings bear no more than 1'-6" below grade and would offer little protection from
frost induced distress.

Ple~~e C81:t:::: t 1.1:; if ~lOl..l }:3V~ 2.rry cples!io:ls or ne;:d of t~l::-th.~r irr'vesti.gatiofL

Sincerely,

"

~4-M~~/~

Robert D, McCauley
North Dakota P.E. 4703

\\Ult~lg-e\Projects\2004\J 04.4 ] O\ltrs\Gibbons-5-20-04 ,doc

"EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER"
