<br />A. Documentation of Need/Description of Project
<br />t. Goal(s)/obiective(s) in the Re!':ion V CSCC Five Year Plan addressed bv this project:
<br />Goal 1: That all children are cared for and nurtured.
<br />Every child has a need and a right to have positive relationships with caring, competent parents, families,
<br />neighborhoods, and communities who know and support the individual needs of the child, including
<br />parenting, mentoring, guiding, supporting, and nurturing.
<br />Parentin!! Resource Center Concerns (See Section C):
<br />Concern # 1: Identify and provide current and pertinent parenting information and resources for parents in Region
<br />V, so that they can raise their children to become self.reliant and successful adults.
<br />Concern #3: Act as a central clearinghouse to all Region V agencies, individuals and families by continuing the
<br />publication of the "Parenting Essentials & Extras" Newsletter.
<br />Concern #4: Maintain and expand the Parenting Resource Library of books and videos for free checkout to all
<br />tamilies, agencies, and individuals in Region V.
<br />Concern #5: Provide better access to parenting education programs and services of the Parenting Resources Center
<br />for all individuals and families throughout Region V, regardless of race, age, or economic status.
<br />
<br />Goal2: That all children are safe physically and emotionally.
<br />Every child has a need and a right to safe environments both at home and in the community, including
<br />structured activities, adequate financial support, and appropriate supervision.
<br />Parenting Resource Center Concern (See Section C):
<br />Concern #5: Provide better access to parenting education programs and services of the Parenting Resources Center
<br />for all individuals and families throughout Region V, regardless of race, age, or economic status.
<br />
<br />Goal3: That all children have a healthy start and a healthy future.
<br />Every child has a need and a right to quality prenatal, primary, specialized health care and
<br />comprehensive health education, including mental health services, substance ablL~e services, and a healthy
<br />environment.
<br />Parenting Resource Center Concern (See Section C):
<br />Concern #2: Provide prevention focused parent education and support opportunities to families in Region V.

<br />2. Descrincion of ProiectIPlan for Collaboration:
<br />The Parenting Resources Center is located at the Cass County Extension Service in Fargo. This educational
<br />program provides parenting classes and workshops, a parenting video and book resource library, and a monthly
<br />newsletter to the six counties in Region V. Parent education classes and workshops are supported by research-
<br />based Positive Parenting I & II, Positive Parenting of Teens, Parenting Works!, Living with your 10.15 Year Old,
<br />Media Wise, Successful Parenting, Children of Divorce, Siblings Without Rivalry, How to Talk So Kids Listen &
<br />Learn, and Brown Bag Bytes for Busy Parents on the Go! Two new curriculums were added during the 2001-
<br />2002 program year: Walking the Talk (parenting for prevention curriculum on alcohol, tobacco and other drug
<br />use), and the NDSU Extension Service Brown Bag Bytes--Bright Beginnings series often parenting lessons,
<br />developed by the four Parenting Resources Coordinators and the NDSU Extension Family Science Specialist.

<br />Collaboration is imperative to the success of the Region V Parenting Resource Center. The NDSU Extension
<br />Service and The Region V csce have been partners in the success of the Parenting Resources Center since 1994.
<br />Successful collaboration between these two entities results, in part, because of the shared vision "To create a
<br />caring community that believes in the worth of children as our greatest resource, and to enhance the quality of
<br />children's lives through support and development of a nurturing family." Throughout the life of the Parenting
<br />Resources Center collaboration to provide parent education programs has induded and will continue to include:
<br />the NDSU Extension Service located in each of the six counties in Region V, Cass. Ransom, Richland. Sargent,
<br />Steele, and Traill County, Social Services, U. ofMN. Extension Service - Clay County. Public Health Services,
<br />Public/Private/Parochial Schools. Head Start, Southeast Human Service Center, Juvenile Justice, Kaleidoscope
