<br />-- <br /> <br />20. <br /> <br />__ 21. <br /> <br />r" <br /> <br />Commission Minutes-May 6,2002 2441 <br /> <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mrs. Schneider moved and Mr. Wagner seconded to accept the bid <br />alternates for site irrigation in the amount of $26,474.00 and curb, <br />gutter and paving the road around the back of the jail in the amount of <br />$133,200.00. Discussion: Mr. Wieland suggested installing signs <br />indicating the road at the back of the property is for jail business only <br />and not intended for access by the general public. On roll call vote, <br />the motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br />JAIL CHANGE ORDERS, Approved for Qeneral and electrical contractors <br />Bonnie Johnson asked the board to amend the agenda today to consider change orders that <br />were recently provided to her by the architect. Two change orders exceed $5,000, and it is <br />the county's policy that these be brought to the county board for action. <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mrs. Schneider moved Mr. Wagner seconded to approve the jail <br />change order with Meinecke-Johnson Company in the amount of <br />$5,694.00 for structural changes made on the second level at the Cass <br />County Jail; and approve a change order in the amount of <br />approximately $7,900.00 to Bergstrom Electric for the installation of a <br />remote testing device for the fire alarm and smoke detection <br />equipment in housing area E. On roll call vote, the motion carried <br />unanimously. <br /> <br />SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT, Airport security coveraQe discussed <br />Sheriff Don Rudnick received a consensus from the Board to proceed with considerations on <br />hiring retired police officers for airport security at Hector International Airport in Fargo, providing <br />there is no cost to Cass County Government, including management of the program. He said <br />the Federal Government will not continue to provide this service, and they are looking for local <br />entities to assume the responsibility. Sheriff Rudnick said the Fargo Police Department does not <br />believe they can provide the service because it may affect retirement benefits for their officers. <br />Mr. Wagner said he would like more information on this program, and the Sheriff said he would <br />bring it back to the board before any action is taken to assume security measures at the airport. <br /> <br />Commissioners received a letter from United States Senator Byron Dorgan regarding homeland <br />security issues. Mrs. Sorum provided copies of a response from Cass County Emergency <br />Manager, Greg McDonald. <br /> <br />22. VOUCHERS, Approved <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mr. Meyer moved and Mrs. Schneider seconded to approye Voucher <br />No. 163,157 through No. 163,669. On roll call vote, the motion carried <br />unanimously. <br /> <br />23. <br /> <br />MEETING UPDATES; JAIL PROGRESS REPORT; COUNTY WEBSITE UPDATE; NORTH <br />DAKOTA ASSOCIATION OF COUNTIES BUILDING DEDICATION, Committee reports <br />Commissioners and staff reported on meetings they have attended in the past two weeks, as <br />well as upcoming meetings. <br />
