<br />Commission Minutes--March 18,2002 2421 <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Amtrak National Rail Passenger Service has requested $1.2 billion in the <br />transportation 400 function of the United States Government fiscal year 2003 <br />budget, and without this level of funding, we understand Amtrak will be forced to <br />eliminate all of its long distance service on October 1 st of this year; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Amtrak National Rail Passenger Service provides a valuable service to the citizens <br />of the State of North Dakota and throughout the United States; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, The Administration's current request of $521 million is the same level offunding as <br />last year and represents less than half of Amtrak's request; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Amtrak has sought to balance competing public service and commercial objectives <br />without adequate resources; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Funding for America's passenger railroad is barely enough to keep the system <br />operating on a year-to-year basis and is insufficient to meet its longer-term public <br />service mission, much less its capital obligations. <br /> <br />THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the governing board of Cass County, North Dakota, urges <br />the support by Congress of Amtrak's $1.2 billion budget request in order to ensure continuation <br />of a national passenger rail system. <br /> <br />Dated at Fargo, North Dakota, this 18th day of March, 2002. <br /> <br />. 8. NORTH DAKOT AASSOCIATION OF COUNTIES TECHNOLOGY ASSESSMENT, ADDointment <br />of steerina committee <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mrs. Schneider moved and Mrs. Sorum seconded to appoint a Cass <br />County Technology Steering Committee consisting of the following <br />members: Bonnie Johnson, Mike Montplaisir, Keith Berndt and Glenn <br />Ellingsberg. On roll call vote, the motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br />9. SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT, Budaet adiustment for Durchase of two radar units <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mrs. Schneider moved and Mrs. Sorum seconded to amend the <br />Sheriff's 2002 budget by increasing the revenue account 101-3501- <br />421.55-05 by $2,800 and the expenditure account 101-3502-421.74-05 <br />by $2,542.00 for the purchase of two radar units, according to a letter <br />from the Sheriff's Office dated March 11, 2002. On roll call vote, the <br />motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br />10. LOST INSTRUMENT BOND, Received and filed for Peter Fredrikson <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mrs. Schneider moved and Mrs. Sorum seconded to receive and file the <br />Indemnity Bond on Lost Instrument for Peter Fredrikson, and authorize <br />the county treasurer and the county auditor to issue a duplicate check. <br />On roll call vote, the motion carried unanimously. <br />
