Commission Minutes--May 16, 2005

2902

18. CASS/FARGO JOINT MEETING; COMMISSION MEETING OF JUNE 6TH; STATE'S
ATTORNEY UPDATE; GOVERNANCE ADVISORY STUDY, Committee reports
Mrs. Johnson reminded commissioners of the joint meeting to be held May 19, 2005, at
11 :30 a.m. hosted by Fargo City Commissioners, to discuss items of mutual interest. The
meeting will be held at the public safety building, 4630 15th Avenue North, in Fargo.

Mr. Burdick said the date of the first regularly scheduled commission meeting next month is
June 6th, which is the first day of the trial for an impending lawsuit. State law indicates the
county board of tax equalization must hold a meeting during the first ten days of June, and
the date of June 6th has been advertised in the county's official newspaper as the date when
the county board of equalization will convene. Commissioners were in agreement to
proceed with the equalization meeting on June 6th, and it could be recessed until the second
meeting in June, if necessary. Mrs. Johnson said Chairman Vanyo suggested streamlining
other meetings that are normally held the same day as the commission meeting; and the
Social Service Board meeting will be rescheduled.

The National District Attorney's Association has selected Fargo as a site for educational
forums through satellite technology, according to Mr. Burdick; and he does not believe there
will be any cost to the county. A tower the county already has at the annex building would
be used for the satellite link.

Commissioners were reminded to submit names to the chairman by next week for the
appointment of a local governance advisory study committee. State law requires a study of
city and county governments at least once every five years, and the last study of Cass
County government took place in 2000.

19.
