<br />- <br /> <br />Commission Minutes--January 22, 2002 2408 <br /> <br />Mr. Wagner asked about hourly shifts when the new jail opens, and Mr. Willis said he and Glenn <br />Ellingsberg worked out a schedule of some 8-hour shifts and some 12-hour shifts to get the best <br />coverage. Sheriff Rudnick said the new people being hired will not be guaranteed that they will <br />receive law enforcement training through Cass County because the jail will eventually become <br />"civilianized." <br /> <br />Mrs. Sorum said this is a whole new process and there are going to be some unforseen things. <br />Mr. Meyer said having the transition team continue with activities in preparation for opening the <br />new jail should improve the transition process when the facility becomes operational. <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mrs. Sorum moved and Mr. Meyer seconded to leave the duties of the <br />transition team to the discretion of Sheriff Rudnick as to whether they <br />are working in the new jail or performing other duties for the Sheriff's <br />Department, with language being added after Board discussion that <br />the Sheriff will update the Commission at each meeting for the <br />duration of the "down time." This was agreeable with Sheriff <br />Rudnick, who said he will meet with his portfolio commissioner every <br />week. On roll call vote, the motion carried unanimously. Mr. Wieland <br />said this discussion is not to say the transition team is not doing a <br />good job, and Mrs. Schneider said it was more of a communication <br />break-down than anything. <br /> <br />13. VOUCHERS, ADDroved <br />r MOTION, passed <br />Mrs. Schneider moved and Mr. Wagner seconded to approve Voucher <br />No. 159,792 through No. 160,466. On roll call vote, the motion carried <br />unanimously. <br /> <br />14. BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS UPDATE; POLICE ACADEMY; STATE'S ATTORNEY <br />CONFERENCE; FARGO CASS ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT; COMMISSION AUTOMATION; <br />COUNTYWEBSITE DEVELOPMENT; NORTH DAKOTA COMMISSIONERS ASSOCIATION, <br />Committee reDorts <br />Bonnie Johnson, County Coordinator, said meetings continue with a variety of users on <br />interactive television. <br /> <br />The fourth floor Annex remodeling project is completed and GIS remodeling on the second floor <br />of the Courthouse is underway, according to Mrs. Johnson. <br /> <br />Mrs. Johnson commented on an article in today's newspaper concerning a police training <br />academy in this part of the state being developed by the Cities of Fargo and Grand Forks. She <br />said it may be something Cass County could take advantage of also. <br /> <br />Mr. Meyer said he attended numerous meetings in the past two weeks. <br /> <br />r <br /> <br />Birch Burdick, State's Attorney, reported on the upcoming annual winter conference for State's <br />Attorneys on DNA analysis. <br /> <br />Mr. Wagner said he serves on the search committee for a new president of the Fargo Cass <br />County Economic Development Corporation, and he should have information on the finalists by <br />the end ofthe month. <br />
