Prairie Public Broadcasting, Inc.
12/12/01

web-based viewer guides and companion materials which can be
accessed online.

In order to complete this program, Prairie Public will purchase a small
camera steady-cam harness, upgrades to the Fargo production control
room's CG/Effects hardware and software, additional digital tape drives,
and upgrades to computer hardware and software in the non-linear
editing station Bismarck.

2) Tourism in North Dakota is an industry showing unexpected potential,
particularly nature-based tourism businesses and attractions. However,
North Dakotans have not traditionally thought of our state as a prime
tourism destination and do not place much value on developing this
industry. Prairie Public proposes a 30 minute documentary titled Eco-
Tourism that will explore the role nature-based tour/sm can play in North
Dakota's economic future and highlight inspirational stories about
businesses and commtmities that are pursuing this niche.

In addit4on to the broadcast programs, Prairie Public will expand
segments from the full documentary to stream on the Internet, and w/il
develop companion materials whicft will make the program more
accessible to a wider audience.

In order to produce this documentary, Prairie Public will need to
purchase flexible camera doily track and a parabolic microphone for
enhanced capabilities for wildlife and nature field production and
upgrades to computer hardware and software in the non-linear editing
stations in Fargo.

3) North Dakota farmers and ranchers need information to compete.
Prairie Public w~l purchase the rights to air the Market to Market program
produced by Iowa Public Television. Market to Market focuses on
agricultural and rural issues important to rural North Dakotans. Prairie
Public will also seek out other programs produced for farmers and
ranchers.

Who will be served?

The broadcast of Ranching Perspectives will serve the population of our
viewing area, specifically improving the lives of rural viewers by increasing
awareness and appreciation for the contribution ranching makes to the
economy and how the state can address issues that adversely affect the
industry.

Eco To;trism will help any entrepreneur who is thinking about starting a
nature-based tourism business, improve the outl3ok of rural residents who
feel their small communities may not have anything to attract v/sitors, and

Page 3
