JAIL SITE, Options for existina iail
Bonnie Johnson, County Coordinator/Jail Project Coordinator, outlined the process that was
followed in considering the future use of the existing jail site. The architectural firm of Foss
Associates presented three options at the April 2, 2001, Cass County Commission meeting, and
the Board took the information under advisement. A public notice was published in the county's
official newspaper, The Forum, on two separate occasions seeking neighborhood and
community comment. In response to that, letters were received from Larry Boulger, of Boulger
Funeral Home, which is located near the Courthouse property, and from Richard E. Blair,
President of KVNJ Television, Fargo. Both of these citizens felt the present jail and the Sheriffs
Residence have outlived their usefulness and should be demolished once the new jail is
constructed.

Over the past several weeks, Mrs. Johnson and Rick Hoganson, of Foss Associates, reviewed
the three options for re-use of the existing jail site with staff from the State Historical Society,
