<br />Commission Minutes--February 5, 2001 2244 <br /> <br />--- <br /> <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mrs. Schneider moved and Mr. Wagner seconded to accept the <br />low bid of Brezina Construction and authorize the chairman to <br />sign a contract in the amount of $23,950 to demolish the <br />Buffalo school buildings, with the exception ofthe 1916 high <br />school. On roll call vote, the motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mrs. Schneider moved and Mrs. Sorum seconded to declare <br />the Buffalo school building as a hazard and authorize the use <br />of the emergency fund as a method of paying for the costs <br />associated with the demolition of the building, including the <br />disposal of any hazardous waste. On roll call vote, the motion <br />carried unanimously. <br /> <br />---- <br /> <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mr. Wieland moved and Mrs. Schneider seconded to accept <br />the February 5, 2001, letter from the City of Buffalo whereby <br />the transfer of title to the 1916 Buffalo high school building <br />and adjoining property will be made to the City of Buffalo as <br />soon as possible after the demolition and cleanup of the <br />remaining buildings and noted hazards on the property; and <br />to take whatever steps are necessary to protect Cass County <br />from any future tax forfeiture of this property. At the call for <br />the question and on roll call vote, the motion carried <br />unanimously. <br /> <br />14. <br /> <br />SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT, Emeraencv Manaaer aDDointment <br />Captain Glenn Ellingsberg introduced his replacement as Cass County Emergency <br />Manager, Sheriff's Deputy Gregory McDonald. Mr. McDonald outlined his goals and <br />said he is looking forward to serving the county in this capacity. <br />MOTION, passed <br />Mrs. Sorum moved and Mr. Wieland seconded to approve the <br />appointment of Gregory E. McDonald as Cass County <br />Emergency Manager and authorize Deputy McDonald to sign <br />documents on behalf of Cass County concerning emergency <br />management. On roll call vote, the motion carried <br />unanimously. <br /> <br />15. ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT, Rural Cass Area Business DeveloDment GrouD <br />Kate Olsen, Mayor of Mapleton and Committee Representative of Rural Cass Area <br />Business Development, was present to introduce Paul Leier, Chairman of this group. <br />Mr. Leier introduced several other committee members who were also present today. <br />The mission of the Rural Cass Area Business Development Committee, which is a <br />,--- group of citizens from rural Cass County who represent businesses and city <br />governments, is to determine if there is a need for any new retail and service <br />businesses in rural Cass County, if there is a large enough labor pool in rural Cass <br />
