Hunting Subcommittee Minutes-February 15, 2005 2

1) Implement an experimental archery hunt for 2005 and 2006 that
is limited to 10 permits.
2) The individuals participating in the archery hunt will be selected
through a random drawing, to be administered by the Cass
County Sheriff. A deadline for applications would be August 1,
2005 and August 1,2006 for the respective season.
3) The individuals participating in the hunt may hunt the entire
regular bow season.
4) The individuals participating in the hunt must purchase a
special doe only archery license and tag supplied by the Game
and Fish Department and issued by the Cass County Auditor.
The cost of the license will be $20 as set by State law. The
individuals may use this license only when hunting in this area,
and the hunters will also be allowed to use other valid bow
hunting licenses in their possession.
5) All hunters will be mailed a survey to determine if they hunted,
how many days they hunted, and how many deer they
harvested. Failure to complete and return the survey will make
them ineligible to participate in future hunting seasons.
6) Only portable tree stands will be allowed and must be removed
daily.
7) Other rules and regulations may be added by the Sheriff which
are in the spirit of this motion.

Discussion: More specific details regarding a safe zone, splitting the
season, and limiting the number of hunters at one time will be worked
out by the Commission or the Sheriff. Mr. Leier said there are ways of
addressing the safety zone and his department will work with the
Sheriff on that. Mr. Pawluk said the motion does give the Sheriff
latitude to make other determinations; and Mr. Burdick said the
Sheriff could be asked to report back to the County Commission on
how he exercises that latitude. On a question of parking, Sheriff
Rudnick said there is a dead end where the hunters would park their
cars and they could put a sign in the window informing residents
someone is hunting at the time. He said he will work with Mr. Burdick
and possibly address the County Commission even before hunting
begins in the fall. At the call for the question and on roll call vote, the
motion carried with four members voting "Aye" and Mr. Miller
abstaining.

6. ADJOURNMENT
MOTION, passed
On motion by Mr. Johnson, seconded by Mr. Pawluk and all
voting in favor, the meeting was adjourned at 4:40 PM.

Minutes prepared by Joyce Schepp, Administrative Assistant
