Vanyo Fargo, ~orth I)akota Robyn Sorum Horace, ~orth I)akota Joyce Schepp Commission Assistant As you know, a subcommittee was appointed by the Cass County Board of Commissioners to consider a request for bow hunting in the Orchard Glenn and Forest River areas of Cass County. The members of the subcommittee were as foilows: Commissioner Scott Wagner Commissioner Ken Pawluk Chad Peterson (county park board member) Bryan Johnson (representing Forest River) John Miller (representing Orchard Glenn) Several meetings were held to discuss the issue, including a public hearing held February 1, 2005, at the Reineke Fine Arts Center, Beckwith Recital Hall, on the NDSU Campus. The news media was notified of each meeting, and coverage of the topic made both print and broadcast news in the community. I have attached a copy of the minutes from each meeting. Also available, for your review, in the Commission Office are the completed surveys providing input from local residents. We also received input from Sheriff Don Rudnick, State's Attorney Birch Burdick, County Engineer Keith Berndt, North Dakota Game and Fish, and Stanley Township. They were all extremely helpful in helping us reach a recommended resolution. At this time, our committee is prepared to bring this matter back to the full board for discussion and consideration. First, we have prepared a draft ordinance for your review. We would need to have the required first and second readings on this ordinance. Second, if we were to move forward, we would need to amend existing Cass County Commission Policy 37.10, which currently prohibits hunting on all county owned flood lots, to list the exemption. I will discuss these items in further detail at the meeting. Thank you for the opportunity to serve as chair of this subcommittee.
