Commission Minutes—August 12, 2014 4352 <br /> Mr. Ammerman has requested two additional staff positions in the budget. His original intent <br /> was to ask for three additional staff, but he has reluctantly downgraded his request by one. <br /> Mr. Ammerman recommended removing one B23 position. <br /> MOTION, passed <br /> Mr. Peterson moved and Mr. Bennett seconded to remove one new <br /> employee request in the amount of $64,865 from the preliminary <br /> budget for Cass County Social Services. On roll call vote, the motion <br /> carried unanimously. <br /> Mr. Ammerman recommended removing the request for a Social Worker III position in the <br /> amount of$85,569. <br /> MOTION, passed <br /> Mr. Peterson moved and Mr. Vanyo seconded to remove the Social <br /> Worker Ill employee request in the amount of $85,569 from the <br /> preliminary budget for Cass County Social Services. On roll call <br /> vote, the motion carried unanimously. <br /> Mr. Ammerman recommended reducing the Adult Service Homemakers budget from <br /> $132,000 to $110,000. <br /> MOTION, passed <br /> Mr. Peterson moved and Mrs. Scherling seconded to reduce the <br /> Adult Service Homemakers budget in the amount of$22,000 from the <br /> preliminary budget for Cass County Social Services. On roll call <br /> vote, the motion carried unanimously. <br /> Mr. Vanyo commended Mr. Ammerman, his staff, and Mr. Peterson for working to reduce <br /> the Social Services budget request. Mr. Peterson said he knows there is a need for staff in <br /> the department, but there is simply not enough funding, and the department is already <br /> running at a deficit. He supports the current request of two staff members, and also believes <br /> we need to advocate for assistance at the state level. He said putting the Affordable Care <br /> Act cases into a single unit will be beneficial as the impacts will be more easily clarified. <br /> MOTION, passed <br /> Mr. Peterson moved and Mrs. Scherling seconded to approve the <br /> 2015 preliminary budget for Cass County Social Services as <br /> amended. On roll call vote, the motion carried unanimously. <br /> 14. RECESS FOR LUNCH <br /> The Commission recessed for lunch at 11:58 AM. <br /> 15. RECONVENE <br /> The meeting reconvened at 1:00 PM for further budget review with all commissioners <br /> present. <br /> 16. ROAD DEPARTMENT <br /> Jason Benson, Cass County Engineer, was present to give an overview of the Highway <br /> Department budget for 2015. Also present was Tom Soucy, Design and Construction <br /> Supervisor. Mr. Benson said revenues and expenditures both decreased for 2015 because <br /> of the end of 2013-2014 biennium funding. He anticipates additional funding from the 2015 <br /> legislative session for 2015-2016 will be received, and he has identified bridge and highway <br /> projects in anticipation of possible state funding.
