Commission Minutes—July 21, 2014 4331
11. COURTHOUSE FURNITURE ASSESSMENT
Keith Berndt, County Administrator, said a furniture assessment with cost estimates was
recently completed for county offices in the Courthouse and Extension Office in the Annex
basement. The total cost to replace all of the furniture is around $1 million. He is asking the
board for guidance on how to proceed as he prepares the budget for next year. The project
could be done in phases over several years or could be completed by department.
Mr. Vanyo said he is inclined to complete the project over a number of years, but the dollar
figure included each year would be dependent on the budget process. Mrs. Scherling said
an entire department does not necessarily need to have all its furniture replaced at once,
and suggested needs within each department be prioritized. Mr. Peterson prefers the
phased approach and said some of the furniture could be custom built to save on costs. Mr.
Peterson offered to help Mr. Berndt as he prepares the budget for next year.
12.
