Geometry checks are performed to ensure the polygons and lines meet the
standards required for the parcel fabric. Data Reviewer will be used to facilitate
checking the staging data prior to loading into a parcel fabric.
The staging and final geodatabase spatial references will be compared for
consistency. If they are not the same, issues could arise with the loading step. It
is best practice to make the two environments the same prior to loading any data.
In addition to the spatial reference component, the staging and final geodatabase
environments will be reviewed for schema consistency including comparing the
fields for type, name, character length and domain use. Any fields in the staging
data that are deemed necessary will be created in the final geodatabase schema.
Any fields in the final geodatabase parcel fabric that need to be populated with
existing data will be added to the staging environment and calculated or
otherwise populated prior to loading the data.
Once the staging data is completely prepared, an inventory of the data is taken to
ensure the same number of polygons that are in the staging environment are
loaded into the parcel fabric.
• Load all data into the Parcel Fabric
Since the number of polygons to be migrated is estimated to be less than 30,000
for any single polygon feature class, the Load a Topology to a Parcel Fabric tool
can be utilized. This tool will be used to identify the target parcel fabric in which
to load the data, to identify which feature class to load, and to set some default
values for the features as they are being loaded.
• Perform post-load data checks and quality assurance measures
Once the data has successfully loaded into the Parcel fabric, a number of follow
up data checks will be performed to ensure a quality parcel fabric result. These
checks include utilizing both native ArcGIS tools as well as employing the Data
Reviewer extension.
Native ArcGIS tools including the Check Fabric tool will be used to determine if
the fabric loaded with any features that could have minor flaws. Many of the
issues reported are items that can easily be corrected or improved with inherent
parcel fabric tools. The Spatial Index for each parcel fabric class may be
recalculated to improve performance.
Data Reviewer checks will be run to check the geometry of each parcel fabric class
as a whole as well as specific queries within each class based on the Parcel batch
job included with Data Reviewer for Tax Parcel Editing. The results will be
reviewed and corrective actions will be suggested.
7
