Counties—vulnerable adult <br /> protective service contracts for 2014; <br /> - Gravel supply bids—accept all bids for 2014 gravel to be used in the best <br /> interest of the county; <br /> - Riley Brothers Construction, Inc.—box culvert replacement in Sections 34/35 <br /> of Highland Township; bridge removal in Sections 31/32 of Highland <br /> Township; and culvert replacement in Sections 15/16 of Highland Township; <br /> - Riley Brothers Construction, Inc.—box culvert replacement in Sections 28/33 <br /> of Empire Township; Section 12 of Gill Township; Section 7 of Everest <br /> Township; Sections 11/14 of Warren Township; and Sections 5/8 of Hill <br /> Township. <br /> 6. HAZARD MITIGATION GRANT PROGRAM, Authorize chairman to sign application for <br /> additional home acquisitions <br /> Jason Benson, County Engineer, said on February 18th the commission approved that the <br /> county begin the application process for Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) funds to <br /> acquire additional homes along the southern corridor of County Highway 81 and south of <br /> County Highway 16. Since that meeting, county officials and staff from Lake Agassiz <br /> Regional Council met with homeowners in the area to discuss the buyout process and to <br /> answer questions. He said out of the 46 properties, 36 submitted applications with only one <br /> property owner from Chrisan Subdivision that did not apply for a buyout. <br /> MOTION, passed <br /> Mr. Vanyo moved and Mrs. Scherling seconded to authorize the chairman <br /> to sign the application for additional flood home acquisitions through the <br /> FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP). On roll call vote, the <br /> motion carried unanimously. <br /> 7. WATER RESOURCE DISTRICTS, Upper Maple River Dam project ballot question <br /> Jurgen Suhr, Chairman of the Maple-Steele Joint Water Resource District, was present to <br /> discuss the creation of the Upper Maple River Dam, a floodwater detention project in <br /> Carpenter Township in Steele County. The dam would include construction of an earthen <br /> embankment with concrete principal and secondary spillways, and would detain flood <br /> waters from the Maple River. The project would provide flood protection benefits to <br /> properties in Steele, Barnes and Cass Counties. Also present was Mike Opat from Moore <br /> Engineering. <br /> Cass County owns a 5.43 acre tract in Section 16, Township 141 North, Range 55 West in <br /> the proposed assessment district and as a landowner, is part of the voting process to create <br /> the district. <br /> MOTION, passed <br /> Mr. Vanyo moved and Mr. Peterson seconded to cast a "yes" vote to the <br /> Upper Maple River dam ballot question as follows: "Should the Maple- <br /> Steele Joint Water Resource District proceed with the creation of the <br /> Upper Maple River Dam?"
