Commission Minutes—May 5, 2014 4292
Colonel Majerus said the cage and partition would be removed, but the rest of the
equipment would go with the vehicle. He said it would cost the county around $700 to
remove the sheriff's decals and equipment. He estimates the value of the car to be around
$1,500.
Also present was Glenn Ellingsberg, President of the Law Enforcement Museum. He said
the museum is dedicated to the preservation of historical artifacts that represent area law
enforcement. Currently, they own two police cruisers from 1962 and 1967, and have a
North Dakota Highway patrol car on loan.
MOTION, passed
Mr. Vanyo moved and Mr. Peterson seconded to approve the transfer of
title for a 2009 Chevrolet Impala and associated equipment to the
Bonanzaville Law Enforcement Museum to be maintained for future
generations. On roll call vote, the motion carried unanimously.
8. SOCIAL SERVICES, Request to display ribbons for National Foster Care Month
Mr. Peterson serves as the portfolio commissioner for Social Services, and discussed a
request from the department to tie blue ribbons around trees located on the east and west
sides of 10th Street South during the month of May for National Foster Care Month. The
ribbons represent each child placed in foster care by their agency.
Keith Berndt, County Administrator, said he realizes the importance and supports the
recognition of the Foster Care program. However, the ribbons are not marked with any type
of signage to let passersby know what they signify, and after being on the trees for a month
become somewhat of an eyesore. He suggested a professional all-weather banner be
considered instead as a way to recognize the program.
Pat Podoll from Social Services was present. She said their department is willing to make a
sign, which could be displayed in the skyway over 10th Street. She said the purpose of the
ribbons on display is to raise awareness of the program and the need for foster parents.
Mr. Peterson suggested due to the timeliness of this issue to allow the ribbons to be
displayed this year and prepare a professional sign to be used in future years as a different
method to recognize National Foster Care Month.
MOTION, passed
Mr. Peterson moved and Mr. Vanyo seconded to allow ribbons to be
displayed on trees along 10th Street South this year with the intent to
look at a different method, i.e. signage for future years. Discussion: Mr.
Peterson said he is willing to work with staff from Social Services to
discuss options for next year. Motion carried.
9. FLOOD COSTS, Payments to outside entities; closeout of 2009 flood
Alicia Hildebrand, Accountant from the Auditor's Office, was present to discuss the close out
of the 2009 Flood Fund. She said in 2009 the legislature passed a bill to reimburse 3% of
eligible flood costs. All of the small projects from that year have been completed and
audited; therefore, payments to outside entities may now be made and the fund may be
closed.
