Commission Minutes—January 6, 2014 4251
Mr. Berndt said the auction of flood buyout homes scheduled for January 8, 2014, has been
cancelled, and will be rescheduled for a later date. He said FEMA has a rule that requires
grass seeding of acquired properties to be completed within 90 days and if more time is
needed, a waiver must be approved. A waiver has been submitted but not yet approved;
therefore, the auction was postponed until this request has been finalized by FEMA.
Mr. Pawluk received a call from John Schwartz, a resident from Lake Shure Estates,
regarding the bridge that will be constructed in the subdivision. Mr. Benson has also
spoken with Mr. Schwartz, and provided some background information. The resident lives
in the northwest corner of the area where the bridge will be built, and his driveway will need
to be relocated as a result of the project. Mr. Schwartz is concerned about the height of the
bridge, which he believes will block the view from his home and will depreciate the value of
his property. He is requesting a buyout from the county. Mr. Peterson believes this would
set a precedent if a buyout was considered in this type of situation.
15.
