RECEIVED
r~AY 6 2002
CASS COUNTY COMMISSION

INTEROFFICE MEMORANDUM

TO:

FROM:

SUBJECT:

DATE:

CC:

BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MICHAEL MONTPLAISIR, COUNTY AUDITOR

MOTOR POOL ACCIDENT

5/6/02

DONALD RUDNIC, COUNTY SHERIFF, KEITH BERNDT, COUNTY ENGINEER (ACCIDENT
REVIEW COMM1 FlEE

· Attached is an accident invest2 ation report completed by Deputy Dean Wawers as a result of an
accident happening on county property with one of our motor pool vehicles. Note that the
employee was scheduled to retire the day following the accident.

The vehicle involved was one of two Dodge Spirits the motor pool had received from the
Sheriffs Department in March of 2000. The value of the vehicle is such that it will not be repaired
and will instead be put on the auction with other patrol cars being retired this year. At the same time
I would like to retire the other Dodge Spirit (1994 model with 95,000 miles) and purchase one new
mid-sized sedan to replace the two vehicles. This xvould leave us with five motor pool vehicles, 2
Ford Crown Vic's (former patrol cars) and two Ford Taums's the motor pool purchased new, and
what ever we purchased as a new vehicle.

The next consignment auction is July l0th with a June 14 deadline for consigning items. At the
June 3ru meeting I will present costs for a new vehicle and ask for permission to consign the two
Dodge Spirits to the auction and purchase one new vehicle.

SUGGESTED MOTION:
Move to authorize consigning two Dodge Spirits owned by Cass County government to the
consignment auction and purchase another vehicle for the motor pool with county motor pool
funds; and to amend the motor pool budget accordingly.
